pssssst. there are a bunch of phpbb mods that lets you do stuff like this but lets everyone do. Most are called Karma, sometimes its in the form of "thanks". Generally, from experience and observation they're entirely stupid unless your forum population is large enough that it is difficult to keep track of.

That would be equivalent of making a system similar to a Reputation system used in forumotion.

But I kinda approve of what Alex says.

Gee, now he gave me a feeling that he's Martin Luther King.

The Reputation System can also include a "Thanks!" Button from what I know. So yeah Karma is the same as Reputation system thing.

That defeats the point bro, sorry.

Again, you all seem to be missing the point. Assume for a second you received Gold Stars when you were a child. Were your classmates able to award them? No. It was solely your teacher. No one else. It was their own personal means of judging you. Measuring your worth, so on an so forth. The Gold Stars aren't a reputation system. They aren't Karma points. The only person who seems to have gotten it is Dabir. He likened them to SS's points. Except these are public. That is all.

It isn't a vote up system for posts. Nothing of the sort.

I don't get what is so complicated about it.

If you all want a Reputation system we can go and find a proper one, I'm fine with that. It is just that Gold Stars are not the kind of a thing.

Connor tried to install a Karma/Reputation system a while back

It failed.

Horribly.

Apparently it's completely incompatible with the theme or something.

On a side note, it's pathetically easy to let everybody change their Gold Stars.

It literally takes two clicks, one to choose the option and the other to save it (assuming you're on the settings page for it).

But what becomes the point if anyone can change their own stars? Even in a reputation system that makes no sense. It makes even less sense with Gold Stars.
