NOPE
You don't have to say it llike that. Besides, the odds of that happening were slim anyway.

So, something that many people forget about when putting together an RPG is the menu design, both in and out of battles.

So if you have any outstanding ideas for how the menus should be designed, feel free to share them. Just throw some boxes on an MSPaint image or something.

What battle 'style' will be used? No character sprites & directly facing enemies a la Lufia / Earthbound?

Also, ever thought of making skills work like PSI in Earthbound / Tech in Chrono Trigger? Spells damaging in a line / circle / etc.

Will you use the music bundled in the pack? Or have custom music?

Why not use the one from Phantasy Star 4?

Mechanical Idea #1: All 'armor' is interchangeable.

Rather than have to fuck around with a dedicated 'armor' slot or a dedicated 'helmet' slot, it would probably just be easier if you had, say, four slots total for any sort of armor and could equip whatever you wanted, so long as it wasn't obviously impossible (Wearing four pairs of steel grieves)

Mechanical Idea #2: Items are unidentified

Since we aren't exactly on familiar ground in a fantasy world, it'd be a more interesting idea to have all items found being unidentified. While everything would still have its intended effect, all items would show as "???". Resolving this is simply a matter of speaking with merchants and other NPCs that casually identify items for you.

Would the identified items be sorted into general categories but otherwise unknown?

I'd say that each character should be able to identify certain things to an extent, so say a knight-esque character would know what heavy plate armour is and how to put it on.

So say you found Spergo's Suit of Adamantium Platemail with Sir Henry the Great in your party, he'd be able to tell it was plate armour, and then any character that could equip plate armour could wear it. But the armour's stats would show up as ???, and the stats on the character sheet would show as x+???.

As far as having unspecified armour slots goes, what you're doing there is recreating TF2's Equip Region system. I approve.

Yes, characters aren't retarded. We can obviously distinguish armor from weapons or potions from hats (I hope), but we can't really tell what they'd be named. Just because it's brown and leather-like doesn't mean it's leather armor. It COULD be, but we don't know.

Chances are in this case I'd have it something along the lines of,

NAME: "??? Armor"

DESCRIPTION: "Unidentified. <br/> Appears to be a form of leather armor."

That said, the stat boosts would still be known by equipping. The 'problem' is that unidentified items wouldn't yield any bonus skills they might actually contain while identified, and any unlisted stats would remain unknown. For example, you might find what appears to be leather armor, but in reality is made from hydra skin. It'd probably grant some natural elemental resistance against fire, but you wouldn't know that if it's unidentified. You'd still take less damage from fire, but wouldn't know until then.

Another thing of example would heavily deal with potions. Which will suck. But hey, if you're willing to drink an unidentified potion, perhaps you deserve the dose of lethal poison.

I like your roguelike approach to the game. Will it take more cues from the genre?
