I Think i can explain, as regards the Secondary damage:
Find the percentage of 870 from 10000.
870 / 10000 = 0.087
0.087 * 100 = 8.7
Find the percentage of 1090 from 10000.
1090 / 10000 = 0.109
0.109 * 100 = 10.9
Add the two two percentages together.
8.7 + 10.9 = 19.6
Convert and take away.
19.6 / 100 = 0.196
10000 * 0.196 = 1960
1960 - 1090 = 870
If this is correct, then it would mean that your current energy was 1960 and your damage inflicted was 1090, resulting in your energy equalling 870, your secondary damage. I believe this makes my calculations from earlier sound.
However, I should retract a part my statement from earier:

And here is the reason why. I tested Tanker vs. Bullet with an energy level of 2 instead of 5 (which is what we've be using). I still got 1090 (or 1084 after factoring in Regen).
